FAQs

Here are the most common questions about our solid brass switches, dimmers, outlets, and wall plates. If you’re unsure which part you need, send a photo of your wall box and devices and we’ll point you to the correct option.

Ordering & Product Selection

How do I choose the correct wall plate?

Start with the opening type. Toggle plates fit classic toggle switches. Dimmer plates fit rotary dimmers (knob style). Outlet plates fit duplex or GFCI/Decora outlets. If your wall has mixed devices (for example dimmer + outlet), you’ll need a combination plate. Then choose the gang count (1–5) to match your wall box.

What does “1-gang” to “5-gang” mean?

Gang count is the number of devices side by side in one electrical box. A 1-gang fits one device. A 2-gang fits two devices, and so on up to 5-gang.

Do your products fit standard U.S. wall boxes?

Yes. Our plates and devices are designed for standard North American wall boxes. If you’re outside the U.S., please confirm your box and device standards before ordering.

Can I mix devices under one plate?

Yes. Use a combination plate when you need different cutouts on one plate (for example toggle + outlet, dimmer + outlet, or other mixed layouts).

Do you offer sample sets?

Yes. Sample sets are the fastest way to confirm finish and tone in your lighting. They also help when you want everything to match across switches, outlets, and hardware.

Finishes & Care

Are your plates solid brass or plated?

Our wall plates are made from solid brass. They have real weight and long-term durability, unlike thin plated alternatives.

Will unlacquered brass patina over time?

Yes. Unlacquered and antique-style finishes are designed to age naturally. You may see darkening, lightening, or patina development with touch, air, and time. That’s normal and part of the appeal.

How do I clean brass plates and devices?

Wipe gently with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid abrasive pads and harsh chemical cleaners. If your finish is designed to patina, polishing can change the look, so we recommend gentle cleaning only.

Installation & Compatibility

Do I need an electrician?

If you are not experienced with electrical work, we recommend using a licensed electrician. Safety first.

Do your dimmers work with LED lights?

In most cases, yes. However, LED compatibility depends on the bulb and driver. For best results, use dimmable LEDs and avoid mixing different bulb types on the same circuit.

Single-pole vs 3-way: what’s the difference?

Single-pole controls a light from one location. 3-way controls the same light from two locations (for example hallway stairs). If you’re unsure which you have, a quick photo of the existing switch wiring usually confirms it.

Will a rotary dimmer “click” on/off in a 3-way setup?

Behavior can differ by dimmer model and wiring method. Some rotary dimmers switch on/off differently on multi-location circuits. If you tell us your setup (single-pole vs 3-way, plus a photo), we’ll advise the best option.

Do you sell GFCI and Decora-style outlet plates?

Yes. GFCI/Decora plates have a rectangular opening. They fit many GFCI outlets, Decora outlets, USB outlets, and rocker-style devices.
